Sword Training

Iai & Kenjutsu Training

Master the way of the sword through traditional Japanese martial arts. Our Iai and Kenjutsu training develops precise timing, unwavering discipline, and martial excellence.

Iaido

The Art of Drawing

Iaido focuses on the smooth, controlled movements of drawing the sword from its scabbard, striking or cutting an opponent, removing blood from the blade, and returning the sword to its scabbard.

  • Mindful practice
  • Precise movements
  • Mental discipline
  • Traditional kata

Kenjutsu

The Art of Swordsmanship

Kenjutsu encompasses the techniques of traditional Japanese swordsmanship, including strikes, blocks, footwork, and tactical applications against opponents.

  • Combat techniques
  • Partner practice
  • Distance control
  • Strategic thinking

Armed & Unarmed Connection

There is a direct relationship between the armed and unarmed self-defence arts. The principles learned through sword training - timing, distance, awareness, and control - translate directly to empty-hand techniques.

Sword work is integrated into our Aikido and Ju Jutsu syllabus, as the movements and principles of the sword inform and enhance unarmed practice. The controlled and resolute attitude required with sword work transfers perfectly to all martial arts we teach.
